Dances with wools - Participant and yarn donation CALL OUT

Submitted by: The Gallery @ Bayside Arts and Cultural Centre

SEPTEMBER 2012

Calling knitters and crocheters! Community members are invited to create an artwork in collaboration with established textile artists.

In September 2012 The Gallery is planning a major community project. Titled Dances with wools, the exhibition has three major components. A knitting and crochet installation created around the theme of a family meal consisting of a long table laden with every type of food, drink and tableware that can be knitted or crocheted, to suit all levels of knitters and crocheters.

For those with no experience, but plenty of enthusiasm we have artist Caroline Love leading a collaborative knitting project. The third component is the exhibition of works by established artists Kate Just and Irianna Kanellopolou, demonstrating a high level of skill and a great diversity in the artists’ approach.

For this project we need donations of yarn – so if you’ve got any spare lying around and are feeling generous, please bring it into The Gallery. If you are interested in knitting or crocheting items of food for the installation, please contact the gallery and we’ll send you out a pattern. At the end of the exhibition all works created during the collaboration will be auctioned and the proceeds donated to charity.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in this project please pass this information on, or ask them to get in touch with The Gallery. Please find attached a promotional flyer as well as an image of some food we've already started knitting!
