Mandorla Art Award - Mandorla Art Youth Award 2012

Submitted by: Camilla Loveridge

The Mandorla Art Award / Mandorla Youth Art Award 2012 awards aim to encourage and recognise the diverse talent of Australian artists. As distinguished thematic religious art awards, all Australian visual artists are invited to respond, in the interpretation of Christian themes.

The theme for 2012 is “born of a woman” taken from Galatians (4:4).

Following a selection process, short-listed artists submit their selected work for exhibition, as they interpret this theme drawn from Scripture in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional format. A range of art mediums and disciplines within the visual arts is welcome.

The exhibition will be held at the Perth Town Hall, opening Friday 10th August and continuing until Sunday 19th August 2012.

The judges for 2012 include Dr Rod Pattenden, Dr Annette Pedersen and Dr Rachael Kohn, each distinguished in their areas of Theology, Visual Arts and Media respectively.

The first prize is $25 000 (acquisitive), with a total prize pool of $42 000. The Mandorla Youth Art Award 2012 attracts a $5 000 (acquisitive) prize.

Artists are invited to submit their final work for selection, via high resolution images. These are sent either by email or via post (CD). Please note that the deadline for submissions is 6PM (GMT+8) FRIDAY 1 JUNE 2012

Inter-state and regional WA artists, who are short-listed to submit their work for exhibition, have the option of transporting their work unframed in PVC piping to “Art Presentations”, a professional framing business in Claremont, WA. Further details of this option will be forwarded to finalists after the selection has taken place.
